Foley & Dunn: The Kansas City Shuffle
Remember the Kansas City Shuffle? They look right, and you go left.
To borrow a phrase from late and undoubtedly hell-fired Ambrose Bierce, folks “will go a country mile to indulge in rich, creamy vulgarity.”
The two dominant scandals of the moment offer all the vulgarity one could want. One corner features a mannish, arrogant CEO cum harpy, the other a craven, damned-to-hell boy fondler swathed in political hypocrisy.
We enjoy the spectacle as much as everyone else, but it’s at times like these that the well-connected and quintessentially evil are going left with your future while you look right.
What’s really going on? Two piss poorly planned military occupations costing lives every day, labyrinthine political maneuvering in the shadow of imminent elections, a central european hurricane whose eye is slowly rotating around Russian Georgia . . . .
I’m not saying it’s a conpiracy, but if the opportunity comes up and you’re in the right place, why not crucify a powerful woman when another one could threaten your party in the 2008 elections? Why not take the opportunity to make child molesting synonymous with homosexuality? (Rude Pundit comments on the democrat flipside.)
After they’ve gone through the media motions, both Dunn and Foley will end up in situations where they have plenty of dough and don’t have to work for a living.
Where will you be? Still looking right?
