Tavern on the Green Comes to San Francisco

Legendary New York City restaurant Tavern on the Green, which has been a fixture in New York City since 1934, is about to touch down on the roof of the Metreon.

The new restaurant, which I’m pretty sure is TOTG’s first move out of NYC, involves a 30,000 square foot eatery plus a humongous terrace overlooking Yerba Buena Park.

The Metreon installation has been something less than an overwhelming success, despite generous publicity from the occasional shooting.

At the minimum, the San Francisco-based Tavern should provide culinary distraction to Bay Area residents.

It remains to be seen whether there will be other variations on the trend, like an Eliot Spitzer-branded Bay Area brothel, though such an institution would face vigorous competition from San Francisco’s City Hall.

I’ll be interested to hear how the San Fransisco version of Tavern on the Green differs from the NYC version. Keep us posted!
